What is a favicon and why do I need it?
Favicons are the super small images you see in the address bar of a website, it’s also seen in your bookmarks list, browser tabs and shortcuts. Why is this important? I don’t know about you but I have a tab problem as well as bookmark problem. I have at least 5 tabs open in a browser at all times, but if I’m really being honest, probably more like 10 or 15. I use them all and I click around often. What helps me see the tabs easier is recognizing the favicon. It’s way easier then reading the text of the tab or in the bookmark list. When you have multiple tabs open, the words often become so short you can’t read it all anyway so you are left relying on the favicon.
If you just have a generic “page” or a “default” icon, you can forget about being noticed in my browser window. I’m sure it’s the same for other people.
If you don’t have this for your own website, do it now. Or get someone to help you if you can’t do it yourself. It can make your website look that much more professional and official. These details really do matter.
